No More Plastic Bags?

Well the "MAN" is at it again. He's trying to run our lives and tell us what we can and cannot do with one
bag at a time. First it's plastic bags, then it will be paper bags, and after that we won't be able to buy
hefty bags in the stores of Santa Barbara.
The rationale behind it, I imagine, is to save the planet by recycling. What recycling means is to reuse,
correct? When I get a plastic bag from a store purchase I reuse them. I use them to line my waste
baskets so I don't have to additional plastic bags. So now what's been created by the Santa Barbara
politicos is an extra expense for the citizens of this town. Some of these citizens are seniors on a fixed
income, or students, or young people that don't have a lot of money.
The people of Santa Barbara are very smart and conscientious. We don't need to be forced to do the
right thing. I have confidence in the people of this town to make every effort to do what's right for this
town and the planet. Everyone I know either reuses their bags or puts them in the recycle bins.
Ya know, I am getting sick and tired of all the bureaucrats of this town telling us what to do based on
their belief system. They think they know what is best for us and that we are not smart enough to do
what is right. Most of the people of this town are quite educated and make a commitment to do what is
This is the same old problem I have voiced before. They punish the majority for the sins of a few. This is
going to cost businesses of Santa Barbara as well. They probably have boxes and boxes of already
purchased bags that they won't be able to use. That is very costly for a small business, one that they
can't afford in this economy.
Here's my message to the powers that be: Santa Barbara dictators, leave us alone! Dictate to your own
family and leave us alone. If it ain't broke don't fix it. I bet if we followed the Mayor and City Council
members around town we would see them with plastic bags. So Edhatters, keep an eye out for our
elected officials and when you see them with a plastic or even a paper bag call them on it, take a picture
and send it to Ed. Most of all remember when they come up for re-election, some are up right now!
What these people do is pass regulations that they want us to abide by and they are probably the worst
offenders. So City Council, worry about the bags under your eyes and not the bags in our hands.
Another day and another thing to get fired up about!
