District Attorney Joyce E. Dudley announced today that charges have been filed against Juan Carlos Diaz of Buellton, California, as a result of an investigation by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department. A total of 15 misdemeanor counts have been filed: one count of inflicting unjustifiable mental suffering on an elder in violation of Penal Code section 368(c); one count of electronic peeping in violation of Penal Code section 647j(2); and 13 counts of electronic peeping in violation of Penal Code section 647j(3)(A). The offenses date from August 2, 2011, to October 1, 2013, the older charges being allowed under an exception to the statute of limitations for late discovery of hidden recordings.
Juan Carlos Diaz is scheduled to appear for arraignment today in Department 9 of the Santa Maria Superior Court.
