DUI Traffic Collision Results in Serious Injury

Brent MacDonald Pella, age 23, of Los Angeles, was arrested for DUI resulting in injury, a felony, following a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic collision near the intersection of Carrillo Street and Bath Street. The involved pedestrian, a 24-year old male from Fullerton, was treated at the scene by paramedics and firefighters and then transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital Emergency Room for treatment of a life threatening injury.
On October 11, 2013 at 2:59 a.m., officers from the Santa Barbara Police Department responded to a call of a traffic collision involving a pedestrian that had been struck by a motor vehicle on the 300 block of W. Carrillo Street. Investigation indicates the following. At the time of the collision Pella was driving a green Hyundai Sonata that was also occupied by a 23-year old male passenger. Pella was making a left turn from 900 Bath Street onto 300 W. Carrillo Street when he struck a pedestrian that was crossing Carrillo Street in the vicinity of the west crosswalk of the intersection of Carrillo Street and Bath Street. Investigation further indicated that Pella had been driving while under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested for DUI and submitted to both a breath test and a blood test. The breath test measured Pella's BAC at .11 and .11; the result of the blood test is pending.
Pella was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on the aforementioned charge with a bail amount of $100,000.00. This investigation is still ongoing and additional details are being withheld.
