Brother Arrested for Mace Incident
updated: Oct 04, 2013, 5:48 PM

Source: Santa Barbara Sheriff's Department

A Santa Barbara County man is charged with battery, unlawful use of tear gas and disconnecting an emergency phone call, following a fight with his younger brother today, October 4, at the home where the siblings resided in the 300 block of El Gaucho Road. Sheriff's Deputies responded to the residence following a 9-1-1 call just before 1 p.m. from a distressed female resident who sounded like she may have been choking and who reported a fight between two brothers at the residence.

Sheriff's Deputies rushed to the scene and were assisted by a Santa Barbara County Air Support Unit helicopter that was in the area. When Sheriff's Deputies arrived they found the two victims, 18 year old Mia Rodier-Dawallo and her boyfriend 21 year old Matt Woodman outside the residence waiting for help. Woodman had been sprayed with mace by his older brother 27-year old Daniel Woodman following a verbal dispute. Rodier-Dawallo had been impacted by the mace fumes as well and had also received a head injury that occurred when the suspect beat down the door to the bedroom where the couple was hiding from the suspect. When she tried to call 9-1-1 for help, the suspect, who was in possession of a knife, ripped the phone line out of the wall. The victim then ran outside and used her cell phone to call for help.

When Sheriff's Deputies arrived, the suspect, Daniel Woodman, was still in the residence but surrendered soon after. He was arrested without incident and booked at the Santa Barbara County Jail on $20,000 dollars bail.
