Macy’s fool you – Halloween is just around the corner. There have been big bowls of tiny candy bars around the Edhat office for days. The Edhat dog has
been wearing red wax lips (now that’s scary), and one of the dedicated staffers went into a trance and typed out some words on a piece of paper. It can only
mean one thing…
It’s time for the Fifth Annual Edhat Halloween Story Writing Contest (EHSWC)!
So dust off that fountain pen, grab a sheet of parchment, and start writing. As usual, we’ve given you a head start.
Here are the rules:
Entries can be no longer than 667 words (including the provided beginning), should be suitable for all ages (PG content, please), must include the
opening we have provided, and must contain the following three words or phrases:Moth
Your story can be scary, funny, dramatic or something in between. All entries will be judged by an esteemed panel of Ed’s friends, based on the
following criteria:Word count
Inclusion of the required beginning and words or phrases, and
If the judges like it
The Edhat dog will decide any ties.
Send your entry to email@example.com by Midnight, 10-25-13. Enter “Writing Contest” in the subject line. Please include your name. Winner will
be announced and the winning story posted on Thursday, 10-31-13. Honorable Mention stories will also be posted.

It was dark when William awoke on the Mission lawn. A full moon filled the sky above him. Absently, he wiped a hand across his face and it came
away wet. Blood? He couldn’t tell in the yellow glow of the moonlight. He remembered everything about the day before so clearly. He was certain he
remembered. At least he thought he remembered. But how could he remember…that?
