Taste of Milpas

This past Saturday, the Milpas Community Association hosted a food, music, and arts festival titled
"Taste of Milpas." With over 20 participating restaurants and local businesses, the taste of Milpas
stretched from Canon Perdido all the way down to the Cabrillo softball field. MTD busses stopped along
the route to transport participants, but most locals chose to walk off the consumed calories.
Starting at Cabrillo Field was a small stage hosting flamenco dancers, rock and jazz musicians. Franklin
Elementary had a small tent with their eagle mascot and Rodney's Restaurant from Fess Parker's
Doubletree served their famous crab cakes.
Although the Milpas area tends to receive mixed reviews, it's no secret that Milpas is home to several
fantastic and award winning food joints. Your Place, La Super Rica, Los Agaves and Tacqueria El Bajio are
all winners of local awards; some with national recognition.
Here were a few of our favorites:
Your Place served up an amazing garlic chicken curry.
Altamirano's dished chicken and red mole.
Los Agaves served a hearty tasting platter of ceviche, carnitas, plantains, and what we think were bacon
Tacqueria La Colmena served mini tacos of rajas con queso and adobado.
Tacqueria El Bajio had a sweet spread with three different beverage options: watermelon, horchata and
papaya. We also had a choice of carne, rajas and adobado quesadillas.
The Dedicated Staff was pleasantly surprised by the amount of quality and tasty food that is available on Milpas,
and most of them are small family run businesses. If you're in the area, it's definitely worth checking
