Boat Counting Winner

By the Dedicated Staff
The Dedicated Staff is exhausted from boat counting with Ed. He had us walking from Sandspit to West
Beach and back again, double checking our numbers and scribbling on notes of paper. Thankfully, after
a few hours of hard work, and a well earned ice cream break, we're confident that we have the correct
number of docked boats. The random day Ed selected? A hot and sunny Tuesday afternoon.
If our calculations prove correct, the Santa Barbara Harbor hosts 4 marinas with approximately 27
sections. Some questions arose during our counting session. For example, this row of dinghies, do they
really count as boats? Ed made the executive decision and said yes so these were included in the count.
Another question was regarding the boats on the pier, loading and unloading. Ed ruled a negative on
this once since they were not officially docked in their station.
(The dinghies in question)
After all the counting and pacing, Ed and the Dedicated Staff decided that the number of docked
boats in our Santa Barbara Harbor on a sunny Tuesday afternoon was 1147!
We received a wide range of guesses, from 27 to 1850! However, the closest guess was unfortunately
disqualified for not being a paid member. We picked the next closest, a mere 20 boat difference with a guess
of 1127. Congratulations to Edhat subscriber BeachTar!
BeachTar and a lucky guest will be sipping and cruising at the sold-out Sea Shell Wine Tasting and Yacht
