I'm drooling, even though I've never eaten it because I'm a heat wimp! Should have known Szechuan on the Mesa would get a shout out.
I love meat. I also love tofu.
(even though I didn't eat the tofu in my sukiyaki when I was a kid; it was a texture thing. That didn't last long. Baked, seasoned tofu is delicious too, but too expensive for me. You can make it yourself.)
Fresh, high quality tofu is MUCH different than what you get in the grocery stores. I haven't had fresh, but Hiyayakko (chilled tofu with bonito flakes, ginger & scallion) at Edomasa, or anywhere, is so lovely in hot weather! Restaurants have much better tofu than you can get in grocery stores, but I'm not including Lazy Acres, Whole Foods, etc; the high-end stores.
There are decent brands available in grocery stores, better than the always-available Hinochi.
I'm hungry, off to dinner.
