The City of Santa Barbara held another family bike day, this one called
Bici Familia. It was part of the Eastside Family Day and Health Fair,
sponsored by the City and County of Santa Barbara. COAST (Coalition for
Sustainable Transportation) provided free helmets and fitting, a bike safety
presentation and rodeo and a bike safety check. The event was wildly
successful - our helmet table, in particular, was mobbed.
Our sincere thanks go to our Safe Routes to School staff Kim Stanley
and Nancy Eckert who both worked very hard on this. A special thank-
you to Ana Rico, our Eastside organizer, who recruited the Spanish
speaking helpers, people who actually live in the Eastside. Their active
participation was crucial in making the event a success.
COAST, a nonprofit based in Santa Barbara, promotes healthy and green
ways to get around, from walking and biking to taking the bus and the
train. Visit COAST at www.coast-santabarbara.org.
