The City of Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation Department is hosting two community workshops on
Wednesday, September 18, 2013 and Saturday, September 21, 2013 to discuss the draft Urban Forest Plan.
An urban forest plan will provide a long-term guide for the preservation and enhancement of trees in Santa
Barbara and the opportunity to address key management considerations including canopy cover, street and
park tree planting and maintenance, tree diversity, utility and other infrastructure constraints,
environmental benefits, neighborhood aesthetics, native habitats, and community education and outreach
programs, among others. Initiated in July 2012, progress toward developing the Plan includes the
completion of a tree canopy assessment and community tree information survey, identification of urban
forest key issues, and the development of draft plan goals, objectives and actions. Community and other
public meetings held since January 2013 have provided valuable input for the identification of urban forest
goals and development of the draft plan.
