Finally Fryday and a 3 Day Weekend to Boot. As I get older my days get shorter I usually fall out as the parties get going around here at least it seems that way lately. In the morning, many of the calls are from the night before, or things that occurred overnight. Labor Day Weekend, that last Big Bang of the summer as far as Family BBQ's go. Labor Day first recognized in 1894 resulting from the Pullman Strike, another company I worked for at one time although I was not a Union worker. I was a security guard at the time when many men were being released from prison paroled back into civilian life. Part of my job was to watch for workers who might be under the influence of drugs, or alcohol. It's a darn good thing I was an alcoholic; that made me an expert in the field. I wasn't there very long when you're a guard not everyone shows up to work, the hours get long, with little or no sleep and no overtime. I made 3.50 an hour and worked over a hundred hours a week after a while I couldn't take it, it was cutting into my drinking time so one day I beat up my boss and I left.
Labor Day I think of those who Labor for themselves and others. People like my Grand Father Russell Powell who worked 45 years for Inland Steel in East Chicago, Indiana, My great Uncle John Mahoney Police Chief of Hammond for many years. Gentleman Jim, a Master Craftsman who can fix just about anything, and what he doesn't he recycles. Edwin, who recycles cans and bottles for something to eat, something to drink and tobacco to smoke. Our Emergency Responders who respond to all calls for help medical emergencies, disasters, hazardous situations. Our law enforcement officers who keep the Peace to the best of their abilities for those who Labor. Happy Labor Day!
Seems like we had a small break on the burglaries for a few days I didn't hear that many then suddenly 4 in 24 hours, I know there has been probably more as I don't monitor the scanner 24/7. It doesn't make sense to steal sooner or later you can find all your needs in the Craigslist FREE section. Some of the free items this week: Entertainment center and TV, Office Supplies, DVD Player, Crock Pot, Dog Food. If you're a thief there some things there you don't have to steal. Before you go to a BBQ or out of town best to make sure your homes are secure so you don't get ripped off. Have a great 3 Day Weekend.
