Victim Found in Ocean Identified

"The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office is releasing a photo of the weathered, orange “Ocean Kayak” that was found within a mile of where 20 year old
Kayla Marie Hallee of Mission Viejo was discovered. The Sheriff’s Coroner’s Bureau is investigating whether or not there is a connection between the
decedent and the found kayak. We are requesting that anyone with information potentially relevant to the origin of the kayak or Kayla Marie Hallee, call the
Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office at (805) 681-4145."

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Coroner's Office has identified a young woman who was discovered
yesterday, August 27, in the ocean near Tajiguas Beach about 20 miles north of Santa Barbara along the
coast. She is 20-year-old Kayla Hallee of Mission Viejo.
A citizen spotted the victim in the water around 2:15 p.m. yesterday and called the U.S. Coast Guard for
help. The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter HALIBUT responded, retrieved the body and turned the case over to
the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Coroner's Office. The victim was identified and next of kin has been

It is unclear why Ms. Hallee was in the Santa Barbara area or if she is connected to an abandoned kayak
that was found just several miles away near Vista Point around 9:30 a.m. yesterday morning.
