updated: May 09, 2013, 3:48 PM

Source: Santa Barbara Police Department

On May 8, 2013 at 11:36 p.m., Officers from the Santa Barbara Police Department responded to a call of an assault with a deadly weapon that had just occurred in the vicinity of 200 W. Montecito Street. Upon arrival they contacted a 25-year old male victim suffering from multiple non-life threatening stab wounds. The victim was transported from the scene to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital Emergency Room where he was treated and released.

Investigation indicates that at the time of the incident the victim was confronted by two males, the suspect and a companion, on 200 W. Montecito Street. The suspect attacked the victim with a knife and the victim fought to defend himself. The suspect and his companion then fled the scene. This investigation is still ongoing and additional details are being withheld. At this time it does not appear to be a gang incident.
