UCSB Emergency Speaker Testing
updated: Mar 28, 2013, 8:00 AM

Source: University of California Santa Barbara

As part of UC Santa Barbara's ongoing emergency preparedness efforts, the campus has recently added five new wide-area emergency speakers that will broadcast emergency messages throughout the campus. There will be testing of all campuswide emergency speakers on Thursday, March 28, throughout the day. It's possible that these emergency broadcasts will be heard in the adjoining Isla Vista neighborhoods.

Testing will be intermittent throughout the day and will consist of 5 to 10 minutes of broadcasting over each speaker. These 5- to 10-minute broadcasts will be conducted multiple times to synchronize and test the speakers. The speakers will emit a series of emergency test phrases - for example, "This is a test of the Emergency Broadcast System," followed by a specific emergency statement such as "Tsunami Warning."
