Source: Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's assistance in locating a suspect wanted for robbing the Vons grocery store at 163 South Turnpike Road in Santa Barbara on Friday night around 8:10 p.m. The suspect was captured on surveillance video entering the store several minutes before the robbery took place.

The suspect went through a check-out line pretending to buy merchandise, when the cashier handed him his change, he showed her a handgun attached to his waistband and demanded money from the cash register. The cashier turned over what she had in the register and the suspect quickly left the store. Deputies along with K9 teams responded but were not able to locate the suspect.

The suspect is described as a heavy set Hispanic male in his late twenties, about 6'2" tall and about 250 to 275 pounds. He was wearing a dark cap with a white logo, a long white-sleeved shirt with a black and white checkered pattern, dark pants and white shoes.

If you recognize the suspect from the surveillance video or if you have any information regarding this case, you are asked to call the Anonymous Tip Line at (805) 681-4171.
