Marine Mammal Friday
updated: Mar 22, 2013, 5:24 PM

By Nature Boy

My visiting parents & I witnessed some incredible sights today:

What I presume was a dolphin feeding frenzy off Hendry's beach at about 11:30 AM. About two dozen dolphins splashing, some even coming completely out of the water in jumping arcs. Several dive-bombing sea birds were also enjoying the feast. It was glorious! We also saw a juvenile sea lion on a rock, where the water met the shore. Is this normal? It didn't look distressed, but I so rarely see a sea lion on shore. Both of these were seen about 500 yards east of the Mesa Lane steps. It was March Sea-Mammal Madness! And on such a gorgeous day.
