Simon first came to DAWG over 9 years ago as a happy, energetic, young dog. At that time his name
was "Fetch" because he was absolutely obsessed about playing ball. He was adopted by a lovely senior
woman, Ms. B, who'd been searching for the perfect buddy to help her stay active, keep her company,
share adventures and enjoy a relaxed, happy life together. They bonded right away. Ms. B, renamed him
Simon and they spent the next 9 + years as very best friends and constant companions. She loved him
deeply, treated him very well and admits that she was happy to spoil him in every way she could. She
said he is "the best dog" and was always a true and loyal companion. Unfortunately, Ms. B has recently
come to a point in her life where she can no longer live in her home by herself and she is being
relocated to an assisted living facility. Sadly, dogs are not allowed. Ms. B had to make the very difficult,
heart-breaking decision to relinquish Simon back to DAWG so that he has a chance to live out the rest
of his life in a happy, loving home that she can no longer provide him. It was a very sad day for
everyone who was here when she brought him in and said goodbye to her very best friend.
So, at totally no fault of his own, Simon finds himself in a new, unfamiliar place, in an unfortunate
situation. He is confused and a little restless in his transition from a quiet, loving home to a loud, busy
shelter. We can tell he misses Ms. B very much, but he's still wagging his tail. Simon is a very sweet and
easy going guy and has no behavioral or medical issues at all. We have committed to finding him a
wonderful new home or… in the short term, we are looking for a safe and loving foster home. Simon is a
wonderful experienced house pet. He is friendly, quiet and has beautiful manners, He has always been
an inside dog and does not like being left outside by himself. Despite his age and graying face this guy
has a good amount of energy and is in excellent health. Ms B says he is slowing down a little but he has
always been and still is an incredible ball dog. She says "ball is his life". He is starting to get a little
arthritic and in his best interest it will be important that his ball fetching activities be kept to just a few
tosses on the carpet, grass, or sand throughout the day. Simon walks great on a leash and loves car
rides. He enjoys his daily walks through the neighborhood and loves to visit parks and the beach. He is
completely house broken and knows several commands including sit, down stay and heal. Ms. B shared
with us that he was always friendly and easy going with her friends and neighbors, and was always
extremely gentle around small children and the elderly, he adapted great when she needed to start
using a walker to get around. Simon has never showed any form of aggression towards other people or
animals, tending to ignore other dogs and cats, wanting the attention all to himself. He craves human
affection. Ms. B says Simon loves to be petted and brushed. He especially loves getting his ears rubbed.
He loves car rides. He is a gorgeous guy. He's big & strong and has a nice thick coat of shiny jet black
hair. His beautiful, smiley, face is starting to gray a bit but his big soulful eyes brown eyes are still
bright and alert. He seems to hear very well and is very responsive. His long tail is always wagging. He
has always been fed a high quality dog food and does really well on it. Ms. B tells us he loves table
scraps but they always make him barf so she sticks him to a canine diet. Except…every morning she
made oatmeal for herself and always made a little extra to stir into Simon's kibble. He loved it. It is
extremely difficult for Ms. B to be without her best buddy. She would love for his future family to keep
in touch with her every once in a while with photos and updates.
