Padre of Roses

Monument at Calvary Cemetery. Directly north (2 feet away) of this monument is the grave marker of "Padre of the Roses" Father George Schoener, who died in 1941.

Between the Monument and the Stations of the Cross is where "Padre of the Roses" Father George Schoener's grave marker, in beautiful condition, is located.

Right next to his is a broken marker, and not legible, that of his cousin and rose co-hybridizer, Anna Schmidt. The 150th year since his birth will be Friday, March 21, 2014. A good date for celebration of "Avenida de las Rosas" which he and Anna created on Milpas in Santa Barbara in the 1920s-1930s.
