Beard Stylist
updated: Mar 12, 2013, 3:37 PM
I've had pretty much the same beard for decades. I'd like to change it up a bit but the woman who cuts my
hair doesn't really do beard styling.
My friend Roger sez "Smoke a cigar that fits your face" and the same rules apply to facial hair. Beards and
goatees should be styled and trimmed to fit the cheek, chin and shape of the face.
So edhatters - any recommendations for a stylist that can size up my face and get the right fuzz in the
right place?

No, but have you considered shaving it off? You might look a lot better! (You can always grow it back.)

Try a barber instead of a hair stylist.

Yep, go to a real barber shop. I have been going to the one at fairview shopping center for about 30 years.

Facial hair is icky. Dirt-catching and definitely not handsome or cool. Shave it.

Some women really like facial hair. Do whatever YOU like, and obviously the women who think it's "icky" aren't for you. (I'm not a facial hair kinda girl, but have no issue with it & know quite a few girls who prefer it. And it's not as common as clean shaven, so it makes you a more rare commodity.) Besides, boys are icky anyway, 994. The beard is where they keep the extra cooties. Didn't you know? OP: Check out the referral section (tab at the top of the page) & look for Men's Hair Cut. Lots of barber's are referred in there, so it should give you some additional ideas of where to go and who sounds best.

I recently grew a beard and have received notably more positive attention from women. A sign of healthy testosterone levels. A recent study also showed that beards are good for you and prevent aging, confirmed. So the whole they are nasty comments (unless you are a vagrant that is) are totally bunk.

I remember when my husband was trimming his once, and got it crooked and so by the time he tried to get it matched, he ended up shaving it off. I hardly recognized him when he came out. But he kept his mustache, and looks good.

Richie's barbershop in montecito styles beards, will also line you up with a hot straight razor shave. to the women who are whining about facial hair, i would never date a gal who posts about her dislike of beards on edhat, ever. some serious baggage at play in this "referral thread."

I think a well trimmed, clean beard is extremely attractive. I agree with another poster, the "shave" whiners aren't for you anyway. Also, I can see where some women who overdo the makeup can be a real turn-off to men. A little is more! I believe most men like a rather natural look. Someone commented about beards being "this new trend"; say what? It's been going on for awhile, ever notice a painting of Christ?

h--m-m-m. No one has mentioned yet that some men don't have the facial structure that a beard can enhance, nor enough facial hair to fill one in well. Try one or more of these mentioned tonsorial experts and heed their advice. Perhaps you (or someone who is important to you) would like the look and feel of a beardless face. The current fad of 2-day stubble (a la George Clooney and Ben Affleck) needs to have the good old kaibosh applied to it.
