Tankless Water Heater Plumber
updated: Mar 11, 2013, 4:12 PM

Referral Please! I need a plumber who knows how to work with tankless water heaters AND a shower with thermostatic temperature control valve. All we're getting is cold water. Brrrr.

please if you can/will let us know if you'd recommend tankless water heaters. Have been tempted for years to switch. Feedback is welcome.

In Some applications they are great. At times it I'd not cost effective to rework the plumbing. The newer style fan forced exhaust are easier to work with. As part of Calif. Emissions at the first of the year, tanked heaters went up considerably. At times supplying enough has can be an issue.

the only reason to get a tankless is to free up space inside your house (when you remove the old tank). the tankless doesn't save $$ b/c your ele bill will shoot up. and it can really jack up the draw time for hot water at your fixtures which then means your water bill will go up. buyer beware.

Love ours! Try Ken at Estrada Plumbing. He installed our tankless and all the up to date fixtures in our remodeled bathroom. Nice guy. Knows what he is doing.

Tankless is the way to go.....your electric bill does NOT go up, in fact, it goes down. Our complex is ALL electric and the people have complained for years about how high their bills are, but when they ask me, they are amazed it is only $40 (in a cold winter, $18 in the summer with a/c) for the three of us....I attribute it to the tankless, which we purchased 3 years ago.

Most plumbers have a t(h)ankless job. Do we need a Plumber Appreciation Day?

out tankless died after five years, but the warranty was honored and the company called Service Now to come out and fix it. Brad Reginato knows his stuff and did a great job. You need to flush the unit once a year, and he also installed a hose to take the condensation away from the unit. The plumber that originally put it in did not know this which is why our unit died. I would go to Smarden Hatcher or Santa Barbara plumbing supplies (depending on which one carries your brands) and ask them for referals.

I looked into tankless. Works great in some situations and poorly in others. In my case, I would have needed three of them to replace a single 60 gal gas unit with a recirculator in a 3 bath 2 story house with a laundry and a kitchen. Or, I could have gone with one big unit and waited 3 1/2 to 5 minutes or more for the hot water to get to the kitchen.

Either way, I would have needed to do a major replumbing of gas lines and combustion vents. Never would have recovered even half the installation cost within the 15 year life of the system. I had a neighbor who put one on an isolated back bathroom and burried a new gas line around the perimeter of the house. Worked great and for only about $1500. Each situation is different.

You need to have water softener installed aswell, Or the calcium deposits will mess up the on demand unit. Love mine!

We like our tankless. We don't have soft water and I fear mineral build-up will kill the tankless eventually. The heating system's solenoid cannot keep up with constant turning on and turning off, such as when hand-washing dishes, and the water will come out cool after awhile. BTW, if anybody has figured out the way to get hot water coming through ANY system without extensively running water beforehand, please let me know. Getting the hot water "up" wastes as much cold&warm water as an entire shower, or dishwashing cycle, etc. How did people handle that waste during the bad droughts?

The way you get hot water quickly from a tankless is to have a hot water recirculation system set up in conjunction with the tankless. I already had that when I replaced my conventional heater with a tankiless. The only thing I don't like is the noise from the tankless -- I would not install one inside a house again. Maybe in a garage or outside.
