Condor Express Fire
updated: Mar 09, 2013, 7:48 PM

By the Urban Hikers

At about 4:10 p.m. on Saturday , March 9th, a boat fire was reported at the Sea Landing in the Santa Barbara Harbor.

As reported by Roger the Scanner Guy, a full fire response was initiated in an effort to keep the blaze from spreading.

Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol responded with their Fire Boat and found flames coming from the wheelhouse of the Condor Express. Using the water cannon located on the bow of the Fire Boat, the first responders were able to knock down the flames and limit the fire to the wheelhouse.

Santa Barbara Fire Department responded with Engine 6, and firefighters laid a "fast attack" water line.

The ship had been out on a whale watching excursion earlier in the day, and had been docked for several hours. It was closed up for the night, and unoccupied.

Speculation by those on the dock, was that the fire was electrical in nature. Several people reported smelling the odor of an electrical fire before the flames errupted, and there were reports that the windshield wipers on the vessel were running at the time.

The Condor Express suffered major fire and water damage to the wheelhouse. There were no injuries as a result of this fire.

In all, multiple SBFD Engines, 1 SBFD truck and a Battalion Chief responded to this blaze.
