Does anyone know if the wildflowers are blooming up in the mountains? If so, can you recommend any
good spots to go?

Figueroa Mnt. call Helen (Taber I think) at USFS 925-9538. The Los Padres Dist. This was brought up recently and you can get all updates there.

I just took a drive up, or attempted to, I should say. I went via Happy Canyon Rd./Cachuma Saddle....the gate was closed and locked just before the summit....bummer. No snow, so not sure why it was closed... and very very few wildflowers :-( The best displays, and I'm not kidding, are in the median strip and along the highway, from Gaviota into SB. Tons of Lupine this year and the hills are covered in mustard plant...gorgeous. Went thru Solvang and today happened to be the Solvang Century ride, so lots of bikers around...a beautiful, albeit, very windy day!

Oops, forgot to say, I attempted to drive up and over Figueroa Mountain....not sure if you can access from the Fig. Mt. Rd side...perhaps.

I was going to write the same observation that Aquaholic did. Stunningly beautiful today up and down the 101 along the Gaviota coast. The lupine is especially lush this year. Mustard is invasive but I have to say it is pretty.

Coreopsis should be blooming at Jalama Beach. There are often wildflowers along that road as well.

The Theodore Payne Wildflower hotline at http://www.theodorepayne.org/hotline.html has yet to mention Santa Barbara this year.

manzanitas, ceanothus, fuchsia flowered gooseberry, all going off. Some lupines & owl's clover at lower elevations but not many. It's such a dry year...Maybe another week or so? It IS GLOirious out there--the deciduous oaks are still bare, with woodpeckers galore flitting to and fro, meadowlarks, bluebirds, and others all frolicking in the lower hills. Get out there, roll down the windows, and enjoy Spring while it lasts!
