Mardi Gras may have already come and gone on February 12, but Ojai celebrated the occasion this past Saturday night
March 2!
Here are my photos!
This was the 23rd annual Ojai Mardi Gras. The theme this year was "Burning Desire" and the theme was meant to inspire
costumes, art and performances related to Burning Man. There were indeed actual art cars and other artifacts and
reminders of Burning Man at the celebration.
Event organizer Shane Butler is a veteran of eight Burning Man experiences. His wife Kelli invited me into this
special world!
The Ojai Mardi Gras band performed for plenty of dancers. There was New Orleans style food and there was a procession
with the King and Queen.
The Voodoo Lounge offered a black-light psychedelic Burning Man feel.
And the Black Rock Rock Bell phone booth from Burning Man offered a chance to talk to God. I took the opportunity to
ask God a simple question: What is the nature of reality? The answer: Whatever you perceive it to be.
What a treat to combine the best of Ojai, Mardi Gras and Burning Man! Mark your calendar for Ojai Mardi Gras next
year!
