Did anyone else notice the Santa Barbara scene on last night's episode of The Mentalist? About 12 minutes in, as they cut from the marina to the doctor's office, they show the building at 21 E. Victoria.

Good show but I missed that episode. I'll have to catch it On Demand!

Seagrass was shown on "The Arrow" early in their season.

I always get a kick out of the BMW commercial where the dog is being taken to the vet's clinic for neutering...at 21 East Haley Street, Santa Barbara. You can see the address on the GPS printout in the car.

My favorite is Psych, which supposedly takes place in SB. The establishing shots are aerials of SB and random local buildings. But the show is actually filmed in British Columbia! Haha - so many more pine forests in THAT Santa Barbara!

Some say "The Mentalist" is a total rip-off of the idea behind the show "Psych". Personally, I don't care. I watch neither.

But I find it funny that The Mentalist (a show that is set mainly in Sacramento) now has at least a few seconds of actual Santa Barbara footage, while Psych (whose story is set in Santa Barbara) has none.

6 comments and no one has mentioned they don't even watch TV? Edhat is slipping.

Ooops, sorry---I don't watch tv--but loved the Mentalist when I did.

What was the name of the attorney show years back with the courthouse in the opening intro? Owen something or other?

Psych not only has great shots of SB. Also, since the writer grew up here, there are several references throughout the series to Garden St., Paradise Rd., etc.
I believe that Psych is a rip-off of The Mentalist, not the other way around. But who cares. They are both popular shows w/ totally different audiences.
And the show that had the Court House in the opening credits was Owen Marshall, Attorney at Law, I believe. Maybe in the 70's.
And of course, there was a show called "Santa Barbara" which was a soap (Ididn't watch that) but it was not filmed here at all except for exterior shots. Most of the actors had never been to SB. But years later, the French went crazy for the show.
Also, I watch several hours of TV a night and always have since I was a latch key only child. Not necessarily proud of it, but certainly not embarrassed to say that I watch TV every night.

Stopped watching "Psych" a while ago. Can't get enough of "The Mentalist," and have even watched some episodes twice. Never made the connection----at all.

Psych much more of a comedy and Mentalist has more (implied) gore and edginess.

What building is at 21 E. Victoria? I am too lazy to look it up. Not surprised I didn't recognize it on Mentalist last night. SB rarely looks on t.v. or in photos the way it looks to me on foot or from the car.

Best show on t.v. right now: Justified. Elementary great, too. All the "I don't watch t.v. people" I know spend far too much time watching t.v. online. Just too cheap to pay usurious Cox.

Correction. I meant to put "extortionate" and not "usurious." Cox doesn't charge high interest rates . . .

I watch television for the news, sports and an occasional movie. The quality of other "shows" like "sit-coms" so called "reality shows" etc. are so bad that they are not worth watching. Most of them are the Harbinger of the complete moral decline of this country by purveying virtually everything that is immoral, promotes moral relativity or at the very least is rude, crude and ignorant.
Even the news has been declining in quality with talking heads discussing things they know little about or conducting so called interviews which turn out to be a monologue of their often uninformed ideas and often interjected before the interviewee can finish their answer or express their own view.
The poor quality of our television is demonstrative of what we have become as a nation.

Best show to TV right now is Suits.
Love Mentalist. Psych is great. White Collar is alright.
Cost to make a production in Vancouver gotta be a lot better than CA because tons of shows are filmed there instead of where they are supposed to be located, like Psych.

The problem with "Psych" is that so much of what purports to be Santa Barbara looks more like skid row in L.A. - thus giving potential tourists a very negative, misleading impression of our little paradise.

The show should have many more and flattering establishing shots actually taken here.

In fact, I'd like to see more exterior production done here. Great for the city coffers.

The less SB is affiliated with Hollywood, shows, stars and fame, the better! We don't need it! I miss the days before that awful soap opera turned us from a sleepy seaside town into a rich mecca for tourists and snowbirds!

I don't watch TV, but I do watch DroidTV, sort of like a DVR, but no commercials. I record Mentalist, but my last showing is from 2/
17/13. Is that the episode you're talking about?

If you recall the name of the episode, I'd like to rewatch it.

I love spotting Santa Babs locations... Psych has some great sweeping shots of town but if you blink you miss 'em. I sent a screen capture to the Independent last year when Corbin Berenson's character was keeping his son company in the hospital and was reading the Independent. Anyone watching "Bunheads"? It's fluff mostly, about a ballet studio in a town called "Paradise" and they mention some of the surrounding towns by their real names- Carpinteria, Ojai, Ventura, Cambria. Main character played by a great new Bdwy actress Sutton Foster who is the main reason I watch. It's the only show I've ever watched on ABC Family. No stock shots of SB in this show, but the snappy patter mentions of a tony community are clever.

Psych is so obviously shot in BC that it's hard to watch, but episodes like Dual Spires keep me coming back like an addict. 725P is right about the fantastic aerial sweeps which make the town look great, but get on the ground and it's green and wet and tall-tree'd...urgh!

Red lacquer nail polish, episode 114, this does show the building on Victoria Street in Santa Barbara. I used to run a law office a couple doors down on the corner of Victoria and Carrillo. That was definitely the building! I used to walk past it all the time as well as visit my friend Melissa Y. when she worked at a law office there. Great memories and a nice sight to see now that I live in Oklahoma!
