Shortly after 8pm on March 1st, a fire started to the rear of a residential structure at 27 South Alisos St.
Neighbors quickly alerted the occupants and called 911. Santa Barbara City Fire Department responded 4
engines, 1 Truck Company and Battalion Chief 730 to the incident. First arriving fire units advanced hose
lines to the rear of the residence. The back windows of the home had failed due to the intense heat, and
fire was quickly advancing into the structure. Firefighters were able to knock down the fire and limit the
fire damage to the back portion of the residence. Moderate to extensive damage occurred to the dining
room, kitchen, and a storage room. Smoke damage was reported throughout the home. Fire investigators
were called to the scene and determined that the fire originated on the exterior of the structure. Fire
investigator Jim Austin has stated the cause of the fire is suspicious in nature and continues to be under
investigation. Fire crews remained on scene for several hours checking for extension and overhauling the
fire.
