An early morning structure fire in the 1100 Block of East De La Guerra St. caused the evacuation of several
adjacent homes.
5 Santa Barbara City Fire engines, 1 Truck Company, and one Battalion Chief responded to the incident. A
wood framed storage structure to the rear of 1114 E. De La Guerra St. was destroyed by the fire. The fire
spread quickly to the surrounding vegetation and was threatening several structures when firefighters
arrived. First arriving fire crews placed hose lines to protect the neighboring homes while 2 engine
companies simultaneously attacked the fire. The flames produced by a burning hedge to the rear of the
property broke windows in a residential structure located on N. Voluntario St. Minor damage to the exterior
of that structure resulted, with some smoke damage to the interior. Fire crews remained on scene for
several hours to overhaul the fire and assist fire investigators. The area of fire origin has been determined
within the storage building, with the actual cause still under investigation.
