Release Date: Jan 7, 2013 Goleta, CA (805) 961-5759 Contact(s): Andrew Madsen Los Padres National Forest officials today announced plans to conduct a series of prescribed burn projects over the next several months to eliminate piled brush and mechanically treated vegetation on the Santa Lucia Ranger District. This process will involve crews burning piles of vegetation in order to remove hazardous fuel loads and improve the overall health of the forest. The project will commence when weather conditions and air quality are suitable for safely burning these fuels. The brush was masticated and piled during thinning projects on the Figueroa Mountain area. The burn projects will be conducted at a number of different sites in and around the Figueroa Mountain Recreational Area located a few miles northwest of the community of Los Olivos. Burning will begin this week. If you have questions about the projects, please contact Santa Lucia Fire Management Officer Jim Smith at (805) 925-9538.

Always interesting when someone posts here about a fire but hasn't called 911.

#398 OP here, I did call 911 and was routed through the CHP and was told they would investigate. Why would you assume otherwise?

Possibly, OP, because you posted it as a “Proscribed” (Prohibited) vs. “Prescribed” (Prearranged) burn. See the press release dated January 13, 2013.

If you see something, say something. We all live in this community together, we need to watch out for each other. We'd do much better to support each other rather than snipe or nit pick. This is a great site, let's not ruin it.

9441... you make a good point but people could help by posting more complete stories/notices. In the absence of information readers will fill in the blanks on their own and that's where chaos rules. Maybe it's the Twitter effect where the less said the better and really invites snark and snide.
