Ticket Distribution

I am trying to find a way to distribute free public tour tickets via the Internet. I want it to be like a lottery so
everyone has a fair chance of getting them, not just those in the know. Tickets are free, tour is free and
they are limited and there are never enough to go around. Does anyone have any ideas?

Public Tours...here in SB? to where? Local landmarks, museums? Historical interests? It would help to know what your tour plans are...will the tourist go by bus or are they walking tours? Try the SB Chamber of Commerce or the Visitors Bereau.

Look up "Google forms". It is free, you can create a template with specific questions (name/contact info/etc. in your case). You can send out the link to the form, people fill it out, and then Google automatically compiles all the results in a spreadsheet. Then you can use some sort of randomization software to pick the winners, even just numbering the entries and using a random number generator (there are tons of free websites that do this, or just use excel). That's how I would do it!

Look at how the Comedy club at Petrini's does it. They post under For Sale/Free Items on CraigsList, and direct people to their ticket issuing website. It's listed under Feb 26 - EAT/DRINK/LAUGH 15 Free LIVE Comedy Tickets - National TV Headliner

Look up EventBrite on the internet. It's a free site that allows you to set up an event. They charge a fee for tickets sold, but it's free if your tickets are free. I don't know if it can handle a lottery for distribution. Might be worth contacting their customer support.
