The Montecito Fire Protection District responded to a reported broken gas main at the intersection of Butterfly and High Road at 10:47 a.m. The break occurred when a backhoe accidently hit a gas line while working in the area. The Southern California Gas Company was called to the scene and they were able to secure the leak at 12:50 p.m. Approx. 28 nearby homes in the area can expect to be without gas until the main gas line can be repaired. Gas Company Field Supervisor Joe Azuna estimated that gas will be restored to the area sometime after 2:30 p.m.. The following intersections remain closed to traffic until the area is safe, and the leak is secured: Butterfly Lane / Oriole Road Butterfly Lane / Middle Road High Road / Middle Road There were 2 engines, 1 rescue vehicle, and several command vehicles on scene. Agencies on scene include Montecito Fire, Santa Barbara City Fire, The Southern California Gas Company, and Santa Barbara County Public Works.
