Funk Zone Fire

Just before 5:00 am on Tuesday morning a structure fire broke out in an
unoccupied studio apartment in the 100 block of East Yanonali
Street. This is near lower Santa Barbara Street in the Funk Zone.
As reported by Roger the Scanner Guy, the fire started in an attached
studio apartment on the property. A resident of the the same property
awoke in the early morning to the studio's smoke detector alarm and
the sounds of the crackling fire. The man immediately called 911 to
reported the fire. When fire crews arrived on scene, the man was able
to provide them with information that was very helpful to the firefighters.
The first firefighters into the studio found the back wall engulfed in
flames. The fire, which was burning in the area of a wall heater, had
caused a window on the same wall to shatter. This was fortunate
because it allowed the fire to vent out the window and kept the flames
from rapidly spreading inside the unit.
Firefighters immediately extended a water line from Engine 1 and extinguished
the flames within the apartment. Firefighters then worked to determine
the extension of the fire within the wall and ceiling. This is necessary to
confirm that the fire was completely out.
In all, the studio suffered major smoke and fire damage. Luckily, no one
was injured in the blaze. The studio was unoccupied at the time of the
fire, but fortunately was equipped with a working smoke detector. The
new resident, who was in the process of moving in, had placed many of
her belongings in the studio but she had not yet moved in herself.
Santa Barbara Fire Department responded with the usual structure fire
response- three fire engines, the ladder truck and a Battalion Chief.
Santa Barbara Police Department were on scene to provide traffic
control.

Leaving a wall heater on and unattended is not a wise choice to make.

Amazing pictures by UH as usual. You guys are amazing, up and out that early on a cold morning:-) Very fortunate that there was a smoke detector, it might have saved the lives of the other tenants.

The block of 100 E Yanonali has a new building, with a wine tasting room downstairs and two condos on 2 floors above. Is that where the fire was? Across the street from SB Winery tasting room? I was just walking Yanonali on Sunday and don't recognize a studio like the UH pictured on that block. Any help to orient myself is appreciated!
