Gibraltar Rock

Gibraltar Rock is longer and more strenuous than most of my Sierra Club hikes, but our group of nine
did it with no trouble! It is all on actual trails, which is unusual for my hikes!
Here are my photos!
Part of what made it go smoothly: I explained in advance that it was about twice the distance and
elevation gain of usual front country hikes. Hikes like Inspiration Point from Tunnel Road. Several people
who were not prepared for this decided not to go. And those who went were able to mentally pace
themselves. The result: Satisfied hikers!
Most of the hike was on the Rattlesnake Trail, taking the side route via the old watering trough. But we
went further than the usual Meadow where most people stop. After we got to the Meadow, the trail got
steeper and more primitive and ended on Gibraltar Road. We then walked a short distance to Gibraltar
Rock and climbed the rock on a short, steep trail.
We saw quite a few bicyclists on Gibraltar Road, which is quite a strenuous ride!
We also saw a young couple climbing Gibraltar Rock with equipment. After an extended, relaxed lunch
we headed down and two more pairs of climbers were arriving.
The total elevation gain is about 1800 feet. But the Gibraltar Rock experience is very beautiful and worth
the effort!

Is it just me or does this guy need to bone up on the Sierra Club's Policies and Goals?

Question to 740 Could you elaborate on your statement for those of us who are inexperienced hikers.

@378740 This guy, Robert Bernstein, is a member of the local Sierra Club executive committee and one of their hike leaders ... he appears to be well familiar with their policies and goals. Perhaps you could be more specific, quoting some policy or goal that has been violated?
