A friend emailed me pics of a car missing its door this morning, stolen. And reported another case of
vandalism on Valerio or Arrellaga and Garden. Does anyone know what happened?

Sounds more like a practical joke, why would anyone go through the trouble of taking off a door.

Case of what kind of vandalism? You're writing about my hood. Only thing we've had stolen in past few years was a battery charger. One night, punk thieves tried my friend's van door, which meant they had to squeeze in, up against a big hedge. Friend had left that door unlocked (one time out of 1,000) and then, next morning, noticed his battery charger had disappeared. Net loss: $40.

Wait... you're the one holding the photos and you're asking us what's you're looking at? From what you've said someone lost their car door, or never had it, and someone else did some vandalizing somewhere else. It's hard to figure what you're asking for when you won't even share the photos.

Somebody has the same car and needed a door because theirs was damaged, broken, or stolen. What kind of car?

I live at Garden and Arrellaga and had my car broken into Tuesday night. Rear window of a 2010 Ford Escape was broken and a door was stolen (unscrewed from the hinges). Two other cars in the same parking lot were broken into as well, with a GPS stolen from one of them. I'd be very interested in hearing if there have been other incidents in the same area.

Send an email to silly council explaining your dissatisfaction with Cam Sanchez's ability to manage the ever increasing crime rate in Santa Barbara, and how your dissatisfaction will manifest itself in the voting booth.

Boo, we live right up the street. A month ago our neighbor did not lock a back door and a YWM entered the home at 10 p.m. but was chased out. The next night the back door to our garage - which we thought was locked, but the deadbolt is sticky and, oh well, long story it was NOT locked - was also entered at some point after dark and before dawn and our cars rummaged through with cash taken from one of the glove boxes. No vandalism. All the neighbors on our street have been informed, doors locked, lights on, security cameras installed and we are on total neighborhood watch. Thanks for letting YOUR neighbors know, too. Bravo edhat for giving us the forum to do so.

082, I agree, bravo to edhat. Exchanging information is the best way to alert neighbors to be on the look-out and lock up.

This is the neighborhood we live in, too. Thanks - will try harder to remember to lock the car, especially in the evenings. Wonder which part of town has the most number of Edhat readers.

@378055 The crime rate is down. But in any case, perhaps you can explain to the council, or Cam Sanchez, or us, what policing techniques could eliminate all vandalism or other crime. I think that would require a very large increase in the number of police ... how much additional tax are you willing to pay for that? But you give me an idea: I think I'll write to Frank Hotchkiss, Dale Francisco, and Randy Rowse and explain to them that I will vote for their opponent, regardless of who that is, because the world isn't perfect and I hold them responsible for that even though there is nothing they could have done about it.

That's my 2010 Ford Escape. Broken rear window is on the passenger's side. Windshield was also cracked and battery cable cut.

TOOK THE DOOR!!! ....LOOKS TARGETED. I mean, how many uses could one have for a door...I can't believe they got it off without a pneumatic torque wrench and a considerable amount of noise.

These are made to order crimes. Body shops put out their needs, and thieves find the parts. The only solution is to drive a car nobody else has.
