February 23, 2013 - Coal Oil Surf

Coal Oil Point is a popular surf spot for locals. John Wiley captured a surfer catching a wave along the break from his favorite place in the sky. Coal Oil Point Reserve is better known for their land inhabitants, the endangered and adorable Snowy Plovers. When walking along this favored beach spot, be careful not to get too close to these cute scurrying birds or you'll receive a stern talking to from a dedicated grad student.

In the news: Edhatters discuss a boom and bright light that shook up the town on Thursday evening, crews were cutting down palm trees on West Valerio unbeknownst to residents, and the 154 was closed in both directions due to a traffic accident late Friday morning. Read these stories and more, below.
