I'm craving a steaming hot bowl of Udon. Who serves the best Udon noodle soup in Santa Barbara?

There is nowhere to get great udon, or ramen either, for that matter, in Santa Barbara. Some local Japanese restaurants sell udon, but it's not great. If I were forced to pick a winner, I guess I'd go with Edomasa on De La Vina. Drive to Little Tokyo in LA for the real thing. Slurp!

2nd for Itsuki - they've got good ones - they are still working out the kinks service wise but their food is pretty decent.

Yeah, why doesn't SB have a good noodle house? Is it because the weather is generally too nice for a place that specializes in hot soup? The old Spiritland location on Victoria would make a nice little noodle shop.

check out Ahi sushi! they have a "tapas" menu where they serve ramen bowls for dinner! they are delicious and remind me of little tokyo! it's just that they don't advertise themselves as a ramen house. their specialty is fresh sushi for the most part but try their ramen for yourself!

Miss the place in the DLV Ralphs (then Alpha Beta) plaza, where El Sitio is now. Great udon, soba etc. and very friendly people working there.

Depends on how you define a decent bowl of udon. It's not that hard to make but I'd go with what @151 said - make the trek to LA.

The beef curry udon at Edomasa is awesome! I'd like to do a blind taste test of LA udon vs. SB udon and see if I could tell the difference.....

377178P: Yes, "Seiko's Kitchen" in the old Alpha Beta plaza. Loved that place and really miss it. The owner was the sweetest lady ever, and their food was terrific.

I agree that Edomasa might be the best place but that we really don't have a great Japanese place in town. If you're looking for an experience, and a good bowl of udon, LA is your place.

Believe it or not, Sushi Teri on Bath Street makes a decent udon soup. Their chicken curry udon really hits the spot on a cold day.

Shintori on Upper State has nabeyaki udon on their menu that our family always orders when we're there. Good stuff but I'm heading for some of the other suggestions to try now that I'm craving it too!

Another vote for Ahi Sushi on upper State. They have a wonderful menu, good sake (Hakaisan cold), and great service and really nice staff.

Udon at Atari Ya on Stowell @ Broadway in S. Maria is very good. Nice Japanese family restaurant, all dishes are consistently good. Nice old-school atmosphere. welcoming staff and good service. LOVE their katsudon, nothing better on a cold winter day (but not soup). Their sushi spoils me for anyhwere else, though Ahi is very close.
