Large Travel Mug Local Purchase
updated: Feb 21, 2013, 11:41 AM

Where can I buy a large-sized travel coffee mug? Ideally from a locally-owned store? I know I can find em on Amazon or at Target, but I'd love to buy local. I need at least a 20oz-er. (Yes, I love coffee!) Thanks!

Magellans Travel Supply is at Loreto Plaza, locally owned, good service for decades. Pacific Travel Supply, also locally owned, is on West Anapamu near State St. Health and fun travels to you.

GREG.... Magellans was bought out by an equity firm from back east a few years ago, no longer locally owned.

REI. They have a large one that comes with a french press inside.

Go to bed bath and beyond and buy a double walled Tervis cup. Or go on line to Tervis.com and pick your own design. They are made in America.

The poster said locally owned... REI? Bed Bath and Beyond? Sorry I can't suggest a place, I shop Amazon and don't drink coffee.

Every now and then I get busted by the bartendar at the Sportsman when I am too hammered to realize that I am walking out the door with my 7am happy hour mug of delicous cheap domestic beer.

The tough one here is "locally owned". Who can afford to run a retail business and compete against a mega-corporation like Amazon?

Anywho, check out the mugs at Goleta Coffee Co. I am not sure how "travel" friendly they are, but they are made by local artists.

You may also want to take a walk along the waterfront market on the weekends. You might find a suitable mug there.

I don't think this is a weird request at all. This is, after all, a community resource. Why not take advantage of people's collective local knowledge if you're looking for something specific?

To answer OP - not sure of SB Outfitters is still open (it was in the process of closing down when I walked by a couple of weeks ago) but if it is - check and see if the still have the wide mouth double walled klean kanteens - they used to have the tops that convert it to a cup too. I have had one for a few years and it is the BEST travel mug and it keeps my coffee/tea hot for HOURS. I love it. If they're gone, then I would try IV Food Coop, they sometimes carry the Klean Kanteen bottles and tops and they have several other travel cups to choose from. Good luck!

what kind of travel mug do you want? a simple, plastic double wall, or something more sophistcated? I'd check with the independent coffee roasters and coffee houses in the area (like Vices & Spices on upper State) They are the coffee geeks.
