Slew of Sirens

What's up? I just heard a slew of sirens rushing up State St from Mission about 10 minutes ago. Fire engine, Ambulance then another fire engine.

Actually, it was more like 3:45pm

I'm starting to think that they send a "slew" of sirened vehicles to every call. Maybe a little more discretion could be used in equipment/personnel required so the other guys/stuff can go answer other calls. If this turns out to be some mass murder or something, I'll take this back. But I'd rather see thinner coverage over a wider area.

It was an appliance fire in an apartment complex. That is dispatched as a structure fire and rightfully so. There were 3 fire engines, a ladder truck and chief that were sent. They quickly turned back the remainder after it turned out to be minor.

6786P... they should make you Mayor. "Ignore the calls - save a buck!" Well... until you're also a defendant in the lawsuits and no one is lining up to pay your legal bills. Not much fun after that.

Earlier this year, fire hydrants were getting run over almost everyday!

Now, we enter the mysterious and magical period of dryer fires... lint is turning against humanity! ;-)

I believe -798 called it correctly. Three engines, a ladder truck, and a battalion chief is a standard first-alarm response to a reported structure fire. Fires in a structure can spread rapidly. If the structure on fire is larger, then more equipment is sent.

The other units can always be recalled if they are not needed, but it's the battalion chief or other fire officer on scene who makes this decision once they have made an initial assessment of the incident.

Personally, if it's MY dryer/chimney/house/whatever that's burning, I'm not gonna mind hearing a lot of sirens and seeing a lot of equipment pull up - the more, the better...
