Black and White Mood
updated: Feb 23, 2013, 11:00 AM
By David Powdrell
Here's the deal…..today just feels like a black and white kind of day to me. Not
sure why. Maybe because the weather's blustery here in Carpinteria today. High
winds on an angry ocean. It's not a bad day…just an introspective one.
Absolutely nothing newsworthy here, just some black and white images from
beautiful Carpinteria, my home town.

I've been playing with B&W treatments these past couple of weeks and love what you've done here with your enhancements. I'm absolutely ape over the pelicans against a black sky but seemingly lit from underneath.... totally unreal but impressively beautiful image. And the local contrast on those mussels is so .... tactile! So is the softness of the two heart stones. Awesome stuff, David. Thanks for sharing.

I absolutely love black and white studies - sepia too. I find them much more interesting than color for many types of photographs. Thanks for having a black and white day and posting.

I love these pictures, all of them except perhaps the artfully placed heart-shaped stones. Did you take them in a b&w setting or did you subsequently work in Photoshop (or equivalent)? ...They encourage me to go out and try something different. Thanks for sharing them!

B & W gives a good perspective on objects and can be more artistic than color. These photos are wonderful! Many people were disgusted with Ted Turner for turning old B & W movies into color, lost the artistc quality of the film; it can be about shadows and angles.

Some wonderful images that emphasize the structure or shape through an interesting interplay of light and shadows.
