This evening I watched the LA news about three innocent people being gunned down this morning in Orange county. For the first time in my life I'm serious about buying a gun. And carrying it illegally.

Thank you, Roger, for warning us. We live at top of Olive St. These guys would have to be pretty fit to run the six or seven blocks up Olive, to get to our place. We can hear the sirens now. I second 374: where are the dogs? Hope they're onto these gunmen.

377: The same thought occurred to me. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. With increasing violence in our cities, prisoners being released in our communities so prisons don't get overcrowded and the police resources being less available, the thought of carrying my own protection is starting to make more sense.

376409 Crime rates have varied over time in the United States. American crime rates generally rose after World War II, and peaked between the 1970s and early 1990s. Since the early 1990s, crime has declined in the United States,[5] and current crime rates are approximately the same as those of the 1960s.[6] There is a HUGE difference between facts and rabid imagination.

I am a resident of the East Side and received this from Sharon Byrne, sent to members/friends of the M. C. A: John Palminteri just called – there was a shooting at the corner of Olive and Carillo tonight. Victim is young male, in the ambulance now, looks to be in critical conditions, CPR being administered. The area is sealed off at present. There has been increased activity across the city in the past month, folks. It starts with scrawls and vandalism, and escalates into fights and assaults. Sometimes, it escalates really fast and becomes very dangerous, as it did tonight. Please keep watch, and call the police immediately if you see suspicious activity in the area. This was awfully close to the high school. Sharon Byrne Executive Director, Milpas Community Association

Why can people be so sure all Hispanics are from Mexico? A woman here in Carp was ragging on a man, "I've been here 20 yrs and you people come and ruin the place." When he replied he was 9th generation in Carpinteria, she shut up and walked away.

As long as there are more guns floating around this largely weapons producing country with 9 million people under or unemployed, there will be more gun violence. I would never own a gun because I was taught that "violence begets violence" and I believe it. It just makes sense, if you look at the physical reality of it. Two out of four that I know who have guns in the home, were victims of gun violence due to theft and suicide. Nice. Without those guns in the home, there would be one more person alive and one less criminal with a gun in his hand. (Criminals usually steal their guns from all you nice people who own them). A gun is not an effective replacement for a weak and unimaginative mind.
