Some people have said murals deter graffiti. On Mason and State street. . . .

I think any multi-colored wall would help prevent tagging. It is much harder for a tag to stand out if the wall goes from light to dark to light, like zebra stripes or maybe camouflage. I can't believe those nice blank walls that are part of the 101 widening project in Carp haven't been tagged yet. Maybe it's hard to get over to the median on the 101?

130 - the construction site in Carp has a watcher - you would have to be fully balls out to try and tag there. I've seen this purple monster in my dreams and now he is in SB....scary.....he talks too....about the economy mostly.

I agree that walls that are painted do not get fools' names and initials scrawled on them. There's a wall by Yanonali Park, the community vegetable garden, with a mural; no graffiti. There's a new quite wonderful mural by the East Side Library, no graffiti. 159: the nice thing about these murals are that one can go and take a picture and make one's own print (or have a photo shop do it.)

I don't know about shooting taggers. I would like to tase a few, though. Or maybe shoot bean bags. Hard to conceal a bean bag gun under my blouse, though.

One is good and cheerful, yes. But start painting them all over town and it becomes unsightly blight. More is not necessarily better. Besides everyone in this town is an "art" critic and it's very difficult to get agreement on what is "good" art.

I LOOOOOVE these murals! Thank God for them... SB desperately needs a little art in public spaces!

Everyone in every town is an art critic.
