Bring Back Longs Drug!

By Fired Up Fred
The Dedicated Staff would like to introduce our new columnist Fred, a resident old-timer who has a
lot to say. This week he tackles the inconsistencies of CVS.
Does anyone else in this town miss Long's Drug Store? It seems like every time I go into CVS to purchase
something, they don't have it in stock. You can see where the item was supposed to be and it had a tag,
so you know they had it at one time, but there's none on the shelf to buy. I asked the kid that worked
there, he didn't even look like he was wet behind the ears, if they had any in the back. He looked like a
deer caught in headlights and replied, ‘'Well, I think if there isn't any on the shelf we are out of stock."
How do they expect to make any money if they don't have anything? What do they do, order only one of
each item?
Back in my day with retail sales we always stocked those shelves full. We didn't want to lose any
business to our competition if we were out of something. I've got some advice for the competition, build
your store by any CVS and keep your shelves stocked, that will be the secret to your success. I don't
think CVS employees ask the question anymore, "Did you find everything you were looking for?" They
already know the answer, "Heck NO!"
The sad part is that we don't have any choices if we wanted to go elsewhere. We don't have a Target or
a Walmart. Come on Santa Barbara, old codgers like me can only get out and about for so long and we
have to go home and take a nap. It would be great to go to only one store and get everything we need
instead of having to go to several stores and stop and put gasoline in our motorized vehicle. I say let's
get a Walmart and maybe they will hire some of my friends as greeters, get them out of what used to be
my hair. Well, I guess I got a little fired up but that just burns my hide. I'm happy I still have the energy
to get fired anyway. All I need is a glass of my boxed wine and I'll calm right down.
