Valentine's Day is a great time to open your heart to a homeless pet. Having a pet in your life
has been proven to bring happiness, decrease the risk of cardiovascular disease, all the while
reducing blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and loneliness. Santa Barbara County Animal
Services has dogs, cats, and rabbits in all shapes, colors, and sizes to give you just the health
boost your heart needs.
If you are not looking for love Santa Barbara County Animal Services reminds you that this is a
great time to show your pet how much you love them by licensing them. A license is your pet's
ticket home! You can also show your pet your love by getting them a microchip. For only $30
you can provide your best friend with a permanent form of identification and increase their
chances of making it home should they ever get lost.
Santa Barbara County Animal Services has hundreds of animals that will be calling to you,
"Take Me… I'm Yours." You can pick the love of your life by visiting one of our three county
shelters in Santa Maria at 548 W. Foster Rd, in Lompoc at 1501 W. Central Ave, and in Santa
Barbara at 5473 Overpass Rd. All three shelters are open Monday through Friday from 10am
until 4:30pm and Saturdays from 10am until 4pm. Make it a date; adopt a pet today!

If you are thinking of adopting a great dog, this is the time to get out to the County Shelter and get one for a great price. They have pit mix puppies like Banyan and Bosco, lab mix lean dogs like Pluto and Isabella, an Aussie Mix Huckleberry and many older pits and chihuahua mixes that would make great dogs. All are tested for behavior and have lived in stressful shelter conditions and continued to be wonderful dogs. Your support allows the SB County Shelter to continue to be a no kill facility with the help of the adjoining DAWG facility. If you have extra time and can't have a dog, come and volunteer and have some fun with all the nice canines! Dog pics and descriptions at K9pals . org

Consider a bunny, too! Rabbits have crazy little personalities, being both nothing really like a dog or cat, but with some traits of each & with lots little quirks of their own. They aren't fish or hamsters, though; they live 8+ years, need attention and exercise, fresh veggies & hay, and more attention. I've had dogs, cats & rabbits, and love them all - but bunnies have a special place in my heart (must be the binkies! youtube it if you've never seen a bunny binky). If you adopt from the shelter, you know your pet is healthy & spayed/neutered. For the rabbits, a lot are already litter-trained (yes, bunnies can be litter trained!). Get a furry friend this weekend!

I hope these pets find their forever homes. And I hope people know not to adopt a pet unless they have the time and money to care for it.

I volunteer at ASAP and we are open at 9:00, not 10 as in the pr release, so come in and get an extra hour to meet our wonderful cats. Have a Happy Valentine's Day and give one of our beauties a loving home.

Another ASAP volunteer here. We have such charming cats right now! Marcellino is a beauty and very sweet. Zeusy, a Siamese mix, loves scritches. Jack, a Lynx point mix, has racing stripes, and lots of character. Milo is a handsome young orange & white who love, love loves people-- but not other cats!
