Some flowers seem to like this frosty and unsunny weather. Here's a pic of my
favorite "Phantom" petunia. It is thriving and happy in my front yard. Hope this
brings a smile on this gloomy day. (Please rain, please rain.)

Could that possibly be a relative to the pansy? Petunia's love heat. Pansy's love the cold weather.

Tis a petunia. Burpee and other sites say it only blooms for about 10 weeks. Mine (set of three plants) have been going great guns for over five months. Maybe it's the worm castings and compost?

Actually some of the old Species (non-hybrid) Petunias are quite hardy. They are also small-flowered, leggy and less than brilliantly colored, but somewhat cold tolerant. This particular Petunia has been around a while but it exhibits some of the characteristics of the original species. The color combo has never fired my rockets. I prefer Salpiglossis ('stained-glass flower') with petunia-like blooms on upright branching stems and glorious veination in the brightly colored blossoms. They really do look like leaded glass windows when backlit.

How groovy to have such a hardy, yet delicate, posey. Thanks for the picture, never saw one like it before. Love petunias!
