what a wonderful waste of time, money, resources and not to mention an infringement on all those lawful citizens who were stopped at the checkpoint!

That's awesome that no one was caught drinking and driving! I think it a great deterrent to keep those criminals off the road. A minor delay in the flow of traffic could save a life of another.
Keep up the good work SMPD!

The illegals and the nearly drunk---wow, pretty amazing after one per day average in previous post for January!

Didn't they stop anyone?

Oh boo freaking hoo 805. This is like blaming the TSA for not making arrests on a daily basis.

805, driving is not a right. If you are licensed you are aware (well, guess not) that you agreed to not drive while drunk and you agreed to be tested for impairment. Now stop whining about crapyou clearly don't understand!

933, of course driving is a right. As citizens in a free country we have the right to do pretty much whatever we want, as long as we don't break the law.

I hear so many people say driving is a "privilege," as if someone could take away your right to drive on a whim. They can't -- you need to be convicted of a crime in order to lose your right to drive.

Consider this. In some states felons can't vote. Does that make voting a "privilege" instead of a "right?"

LOL. I drove drunk through that checkpoint.

NOTE: See Deletion Rule #420"

rule 420, too funny.

Not a good way to catch drunks, but it won't change as long as local government is willing to take the cost of police overtime out of budgets for our kids' education and services for the vulnerable elderly and disabled.

955. Maybe that your view based solely on the United States, but some cultures kill to be able to vote. Literally. Get off your high horse.

004, your post makes no sense. Good think for you we don't have drunk posting checkpoints.

@933 everything about driving is a right what rock are you living under? Checkpoints allow police to stick their head in your vehicle and determine at their own discretion whether you are abiding by the law or not. Unless you commit a crime or are suspected of a crime you never under any circumstances need to ID yourself or show your proof of insurance/registration etc etc to a police officer. These checkpoints allow them to question every person as a possible suspect, regardless of how law abiding they are. What about that do you not understand is a violation of privacy........

You people are idiots. You signed away many "rights" when you agreed to be licensed to drive. I'm so relived I share the roads with you. Not. Be a good driver. Don't drive drunk or impaired (that includes using your phone while driving or operating a Prius). You may be stopped by a law enforcement officer to ensure you are operating correctly and safely. Yep, you agreed to that when you accepted your license. If you don't know that I fear there are many other factors of driving you aren't aware of: that means you are an uneducated driver. Great. You are as dangerous as a drunk. I avoid you everyday on my 7 mile commute. Thanks for making my life more dangerous.
