Phone Line Repair
updated: Feb 08, 2013, 4:20 PM

Our Office needs to have phone lines switched at the control panel, can anyone recommend how we would go about making this happen? Telephone repair man? Verizon? We appreciate any suggestions!

We don't understand the question. Seriously. Tell us what you're trying to accomplish, rather than give us partial details of how you think it's done.

Are you talking about phone system hard wiring (actual physical wire)? Or are you talking about the software/firmware of the internal phone sub-system that you bought (computerized switchboard)? Or is it the provider (external) that you want to change?

Where I work we have been using VOIP for the last 5 years. All you need is fiber, not necessarily phone lines. Although the phone companies often times own the fiber.

You really need to be more clear about what you're trying to accomplish. Are you trying to change the extensions on some phones? Move phones to new locations? Add new phones? Change phone companies?

With such a complete lack of information, all anyone can recommend is, "Call a professional."

If it needs to be switched at the control panel then you'll need a phone control panel expert. Have a competent person communicate with someone who can communicate in technical terms. Several years ago one of my employees asked me, "Where is it?" And I said, "Where is what?" And she said, "I'm not sure." I remained silent and I decided that she needed to CoExist somewhere else. I believe she collected unemployment for nearly two years and may currently be a phone line control panel expert.

No reason to be hard on the op, not everyone understand or gets paid to understand technology.

OP, We need more specifics to help you. Control panel is very vague. Is the wiring that needs to be changed outside the building or inside? What are you trying to accomplish?

You do not need fiber for VOIP. Properly configured network hardware allows for VOIP on DSL, cable, T1, etc.

You need an someone who is in the "Interconnect" business.

There are several companies in Santa Barbara.

One guy who may help is Mel Beckman 805 302 2594

Or Gerhart Koga 805 705 4888

You can mention my name.

I think you're saying you need a multi-line phone and need to connect a phone cord for each incoming phone # to the appropriate telephone ? and need someone to push a button on the multi-line console to direct an incoming call to the right # - or do you need switching at the wiring block?

I taught myself (electronics and engineering background) how to punch down changes in the phone closet at our college when they weren't willing to spend $$$ for an outside person.

They had a flooded administration office area due to a clogged drain during an unexpected rainstorm.

I even moved all their administrative phones to the warehouse building at the far end of the campus.

It's not difficult to do but if you don't have some hands-on experience with wiring and a bit of electrical background you DO need a professional as posts have said.
