Try Lee's tailoring. It is in the El mercado off upper State st.
I just took some jeans in for hemming he charges 17 for that, which is cheaper than anyone else I could find. Very nice gentleman, he has been there for 25 years.He has a website also. Lee's Tailoring

stretchy material can be tricky. I's ask to see an example of their work on knits, or you could get a 'roller coaster' zipper, quite unnactractive. (If the hoodie has sentimental value, cost is not in the equation.)

2216... it would take about an hour to remove the old zipper and sew in the new. That's skilled labor to do it in that amount of time... an amateur might take 4 hours and do a carpy job. $20 well worth spending if the OP is trying to save a favourite garment.

269: I'm a very novice sewer, and it MIGHT take me that long to replace a zipper. Someone who knows what they are doing, it'd probably be 20 minutes. Four hours? That's insane. I've sewed shirts & dresses (including cutting the material) in under 4 hours (admittedly simple ones, but still - FOUR HOURS for a zipper?).

2276... 2269 here, if you can make shirts and dresses you are not a novice. I'm a novice and I could not replace an 8inch zipper in under 2 hours, much less a 26inch one. But parsing aside or arguing for argument's sake .... $20 to replace a 26 inch zipper is not expensive. But if you want to argue that it is 'coz you can do it in 20 minutes for less then you should offer the OP your services. No argument from me there! :-)

I like how 216P wrote "it's gonna be about $20," and everyone just ran with it. I wouldn't do it for less than $30. That includes the price of the zipper. And I would pay to watch 276 try and do it in an hour. That would make for good entertainment. Let the games begin in 3 . . . 2 . . . 1.

I'd call myself a novice+, I sew most of my own repairs and small alterations, but I'd pay a pro to replace a long split zipper on a piece of clothing. Those have to be set in perfectly straight and with the two sides perfectly lined up, so the garment falls right when it's zipped. Plus removing a zipper can be a lot of tiny detail stitch pulling. A pro does things like this all the time, and it shows.
