Knife Disposal
updated: Feb 07, 2013, 8:59 AM

I have an old used knife set that isn't worth selling. I don't think I can just throw them away. Would a thrift
store take them? Or is there anywhere else I can donate/trash them?

kitchen knives or those "collectable" sets they sell on late night TV? Cooking knives always welcome at thrift stores, the others, would think NOT.

Toss them in your combined recyclables. If Marborg can recycle them for the metal they will, it they can't they will trash them.

If you decide to put them in a recycle bin, please place a note on it saying it contains knives so the trash guys are careful & don't accidentally cut themselves. Or, better idea, if you want to recycle them, take them to the recycling station (County Dump Road, between Turnpike & El Sueno on Calle Real). it's free & you're less likely to have issues trying to recycle there as they take pretty much everything. Although trying for a thrift shop first is probably your best idea.

Old knives are great for gardening uses. We used to use a WWII bayonet (with a handle that we padded and wrapped in duct tape) as a weeding tool. Works great! If these are strong enough (not flimsy), you've got yourself some great weeding tools. If you don't weed yourself, Craigs list for free.

Referencing DOGMOM's post.... Thanks for the suggestion.... Yahoo groups are sooooo tough to get around....Yahoo wants all sorts of information just to allow you to view the posts....hardly worth the trouble. Don't understand why it's so involved.....CAPTCHA controls and all that

Donate to Good Will (NW corner Carrillo and Bath) or else put in "Art" section of Craigslist. (Sculptors love this junk.) Or--take them to Iron & Metal at Gutierrez & Quarantina. Just give them to the guys there, as the metal will only be worth about 10ยข, if that. Thanks for "repurposing" and not just sending stuff to the landfill. Good job.

Contact the Sheriff's Department. They probably have periodic buyback programs in order to keep them off the streets.
