What's up is that we do not spend enough money on infrastructure. Instead we spend money on pet projects and overpaid consultants, giveaway after giveaway... The entire country is living on infrastructure built in the early 1900's...we're going to fall apart in the coming years. While we racked up all the debt over the last 30 years we didnt do it by planning or building for our future. We did it to pad the bank accounts of far too many for far too little. And now we're screwed. / rant

Good wake up call to have your emergency supplies ready. Good thing that we had some "earthquake water" in the garage, and a good reminder to replenish/replace it occasionally. Ours is probably 5 years old.

Oh, oh.....no water= no coffee, no shower or hair wash, no tooth brushing......this is where good neighbors come in handy. Maybe the neighbors who do have water can offer a little hospitality or if you belong to a gym you have an opportunity at least to start your day off with a morning shower before work. I have my many gallons of emergency supply water that I can turn to in an event like this. Everyone should have this. I don't have room inside my house, so my emergency supply kit is inside a sealed trashcan with a lid that I store in the yard. Water is on at the 1000 block of Chino.

@752 agree! SB has crummy infrastructure but City and County employees have really great job security, benefits, and pensions. Not that the private sector wouldn't do worse (oh, and would it ever do worse -- look at the utilities) -- but our entire civilization is built upon being able to flush the toilet, use electricity, and have tap water. Unfortunately the infrastructure for those things has not been and is not being maintained. Now there's no money for it.

The City replaces approximately 1 mile of water mains per year. That would be considered upgrading infrastructure, right?

@850 that depends on how many miles of water mains there are, vs. the age of the water mains in general, where the mains are being replaced, how it is determined which mains are replaced -- e.g. based on failure rates, or age, or what? If 75% of the water mains are 40+ years old, then replacing a mile a year is not attacking the problem. Not enough information on the subject to know the answer.

The senior staff and some city council members have decided to spend our water funds for endless lawyers and litigation and propaganda campaigns attempting to fight the endangered species act instead of repairing our essential infrastructure of pipes and valves.

Water funds are provided by rate payers, and the City staff has a long range plan for replacing water pipes. They don't spend our rate payer money on propaganda and litigation. It takes many years to replace a water system that is over 100 yrs old in some areas.
