Yea, this world is a mess granted but murdering your kids and then killing yourself is no way to solve the world's problems or yours. Tragic.

OMG, I worked with this guy. Santa Barbara View is speculating that the conspiracy writer of a 9/11 book could be part of a conspiracy! Link to that story please!!! Was he killed? The two kids were in the Santa Barbara School Districts!! Crazy story. Wish Newshawk would have had a local writer or two on it. BTW, why do the misspell news?

Horrendous, incomprehensible, tragic. It's curious to read where authorities were questioned about Mr. Marshall's mental health. I am not an expert in the field of psychiatry or medicine, but no one does this under 'normal' circumstances, do they? A human being does not not kill their children, pet, and himself, without being mentally ill, period. Awful.

This is a mystery as well as a tragedy. The wife and mother was in Turkey, setting up a business to sell..... "saffron" ? The father accused the US and Saudi Arabia of conspiracy in 911 and also was a pilot for the CIA in Iran Contra? Wow, this could be a book all in itself.

One of the strangest bits in the story is the murder of the dog. Why would the father do that? If it was your dog, he wouldn't bark or create a fuss with you in the room, but if a stranger was there certainly might. Also the fact that all occurred in a living room where the father's body could be seen from the front door? Almost like it was a message.

It's hard to fathom what his reasoning was; sure, kill yourself but the children makes no sense. What is the story on the Mother? So extremely sad. RIP youngsters.

Agree RED CREEK....the only thing that makes sense and points to Mr. Marshall as the shooter, is the dog...according to the story it belonged to his (estranged) wife. The couple also had prior dealings with the police...still, a sad way to 'deal' with your issues, whatever they were. RIP innocent ones.

The father was supposedly bi-polar and watching his kids while his ex-wife was out of the country. The dog was hers

Please please don't say anything here that could hurt this family more than it could hurt. There is no mystery. There is no more story. A very sick man has taken 2 beautiful children from the rest of the family and the grief will be felt deeply, painfully and forever. To those of you that have embraced this family with your love and prayers, please know it is helping tremendously and will carry the family through this nightmare for a long time. This love will never be forgotten.thank you

The "murder suicide" explanation is the knee-jerk pronouncement of the media. Forensic findings wont be released for another 2 weeks.

761: Re. "bipolar". If you can't provide evidence, then you are likely making this up. Commercial airlines (and US Central Intelligence) tend not to employ bipolars, and personnel have the medical and background checks to weed out those who are inappropriate for the position.

Before his 20 year career as a commercial captain, Marshall flew as a CIA contract pilot, unwittingly bringing huge quantities of cocaine into the country: Oliver North was his handler. Barry Seal was his direct contact, who was coincidentally assassinated. Gary Webb the San Jose journalist who investigated the scandal "killed himself" with TWO gunshots to the head. (Yeah, right).

Mr. Marshall was a devoted father and adored his kids. He often canceled business appointments to drive all the way home to be with his son when he had a Little League game.

this situation stinks pretty bad. his association with CIA and 9/11 truth suggests a staged suicide, a hit, an assassination.

There are a lot of people in Santa Barbara who knew Phil and his children and how much he cared for them. His neighbors in Forest Meadows thought he was an upstanding and solid guy. It seems those who knew him are having a hard time believing he could do this heinous act.

Of course everyone is having a hard time believing anyone could do this. But he did.

all of you suggesting that he actually murdered his children should go on youtube and look up coast to coast Philip Marshall. This guy was a respected aviation professional, very knowledgeable and was revealing information that you are not supposed to know....

Once again the point is driven home that having a gun in the house makes it more likely that you will be the victim of gun violence.

Maybe the NRA will argue that the kids and dog should have been armed and trained to defend themselves while they were sleeping.

What happened to his book?

772: Marshall was NOT sick, NOT bipolar, had NO mental illness, and was NOT violent. He was a devoted father. He was an airline captain for 20 years with major carriers, a brilliant airman. His fellow copilots have praised him as the best man to have in the other seat, with the training, calmness and discipline required in a crisis.

He flew seven types of Boeings. His last job was consulting for airlines, screening pilots for inappropriate behavior (drinking etc), highly responsible work. His friends, neighbors and colleagues have said this DOES NOT FIT his character.

However, he had worked alongside unsavory characters (Col. North etc), and he had the cojones to question 9/11. Many others who have researched 9/11 have also met violent/suspicious deaths, or lost their careers.

Please lets keep the 5th grade "conspiracy theorist" accusations away from the discussion and keep it rational and mature, if possible. Thanks.

1894... what? You're not injecting your own opinions about Saudi conspiracies? I totally agree with 961 that without a gun in the house the kids and wife's dog would not have been killed - if this is what it looks like as the newsies say.

Means and motive: without the means where is the motive to kill the kids? And bipolar depression is a lame reason... loads of parents with bipolar disorders don't go around shooting up their families.
