updated: Feb 06, 2013, 8:38 AM
By Edhat Subscriber
Does anyone know what is up with the Verizon LTE outage in the Carpinteria area? The typically good
reception is mostly non-existent to extremely weak the last couple days.

Yes.Because of the loss of 8 cells sites at the QAD facility, Verizon and ATT have had to resort to temporary lower power cell on wheels to try and provide service to Montecito, Summerland and Carp. The Montecito Commission supervisors have rejected every proposal Verizon has given them for relocation of these VITAL 8 cell towers. Its an absolute nightmare. Verizon is deeply committed to solving this issue, they just need approval to set up permanent sites that are vital to the superb coverage Verizon is used to providing. Please put pressure on the Montecito commission to come up with a solution. Verizon has been battling this problem for over 5 years now. Lets get proactive and get this resolved.

401 right on. But can you tell me why were those sites 'lost'? And yes the nimbys in Montecito have held this up long enough. I can't get a signal here unless I walk out into the street or climb up on my roof. The self-serving Montecito Association and other do-gooder groups in town have held this up, held the Miramar up and now they're going for the freeway and trying to hold that up with their nonsense. A bunch of retired retreads with nothing to do but compete for the Gadfly Awards. I think they should go back to straightening their tie in the mirror and take that fruitcake Buckley, of The Montecito Buckley Rant, with.

call salud's office if you want the service to improve, because the companies have permit applications in (and have in the case of verizon for some time) with the planning department. no permits, no service. 1st District: Salud Carbajal, Vice-Chair Phone: (805) 568-2186 Fax: (805) 568-2534 E-mail: SupervisorCarbajalATsbcbos1.org

In response to 472. The sites were lost because the lease on the property was up. And for whatever reason could not be renewed. QAD may have moved all together. Not sure. All I know is that VERIZON WIRELESS is SUPER committed to getting this problem resolved, and they have been rejected time after time. 2 years ago they worked a deal with Westmont College to put a cell tower on their property. This would have blanketed the Westmont area as well as the backside of 192 which has never had good Verizon coverage. At the very last minute the deal fell thru because of concerns over caterpillars. Yes caterpillars. This has happened to Verizon over and over. They value the Montecito, Summerland and Carp communities and truely want to provide fantastic cell and 4g LTE coverage. So whoever out there has any ideas, I believe they should contact Salud Carbajal just as 483 has indicated.

Thank you 483 and 486, from 472. I will contact Salud. Meanwhile, I've installed a permanent ladder to the roof. The street wasn't going to work out very well.

Sounds like the same issue that I have been experiencing in Santa Barbara, however, my issue has been going on for a year now. I get no signal on the block that I live on in the center of SB. Verizon claims that there are no problems, I have called and reported this 5 or 6 times with no improvement from Verizon. I have the same exact problem on 4 different phones.

554. Ask verizon to send you a network extender. These devices work for small homes and condo's. All you need is a good internet connection. It connects to your modem. The extender will convert your verizon wireless signal to a Voice over internet signal providing good signal for up to 1000sq feet.
