I just bought a new house and need someone to wire it for CAT6 network and coaxial cable. Has anyone
had this done, and could you provide recommendations for someone to do this?

I would recomment Data/Tel Connection. He has experience running data cable in residential and won't hack up your place. He helped me design a wiring scheme for my home. Very professsional, local, and private. You can look up his site at datatelconnection (dot com)

Don't know why you would go with 5e over 6, considering how bandwidth-heavy many internet applications are becoming and the performance gains/lack of signal loss associated with 6. Besides, future proofing is always good. Might cost you a little bit extra, but still.. :)

Consider also adding fiber optic runs - or at the least, leave some room and some extra zip/pull cords in the conduit for when you do want FO.

I did it myself. Fortunately, the house is on a raised floor and is single story, so access was not too bad. Got all the Leviton QuickPort parts from California Electric off Milpas, plenum cable from Home Depot. Newegg also has plenum in stock. If your house is multi-story and on slab, make sure whomever you hire has experience with this situation. Some commercial installers work mostly with offices where a false cieling or raised floor makes the work easier (well, at least different). Cat6 vs Cat5e is a no-brainer, the difference in cost won't be that much unless you are really pinching pennies (in which case you should do it yourself) or live in a mansion.

I thought Cat5e was fine for up to gigabit ethernet, which (if true) would fulfill most people's home networks (YMMV). Totally agree with others that if you are paying a pro to do the install just go with Cat6 since most of the cost will be in the labor and terminations.

Powell Electric. They did my office, cat 5, electrical, phone, cable. Clean, quick, neatly laid out and made up at boxes, no wire strippings or e-tape left in the dirt which I often see( I'm in design/constuction industry).

If I remember correctly Fry's is in Ventura/Oxnard area now. It you are going that way you might want to check the price of materials there if you're doing your own wiring. Don't think you'd want to pay for the freight costs of a 1000 foot roll of CAT 6 so finding it where you can pick it up is worthwhile. In Silicon Valley they have just about the least expensive wire and hardware for networking. Also there are a lot of sources on the Internet that sometimes have good quality items at very good prices. When Fry's had only 2 or 3 stories I used to buy that type of stuff for the college I worked for and get it on a will call basis. I think these days I'd just depend on my wireless router to get the internet to the other end of the house.

Insight Electric, Richter Electric, and Waterfall Electric all have extensive experience in running and fishing CAT5e and 6, and quad shield coax. I have worked with all three and are equally fantastic at fishing wire down walls and terminating them. They usually leave the network setup to a network pro.

Oddly enough you can get a service contract from Cox for about 6 bucks and they'll send someone out.
You can cancel the contract anytime.
